Postal Services

Postal Services Located on level 4 of the Schwann Building the Post Room staff can be contacted on extension 2343 or by e-mail.

The Campus Support Manager, assisted by Lynne Armitage, Debbie Etchells and Geoff Walker ensure the receipt, delivery and distribution of post throughout the University.

Opening/Collection & Delivery times

Opening Hours:

Monday to Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

Afternoon Collection (internal)

Monday to Friday 1:30pm and 3:00pm (approx)

You may, of course, bring mail to and collect mail from the Post room between 8.00am and 5.00pm.

Remember! Parcelforce collect at 4.00pm and the Royal Mail's final collection is at 4.40pm prompt Monday to Friday

To enable your mail to be sorted and delivered efficiently please ensure that the envelope (be it for internal or external delivery) is addressed correctly.

To ensure that your mail is franked appropriately please ensure that the correct identification slip is attached to your envelope (or bundle of envelopes). Explanatory details can be found below.

Internal mail

All internal mail is to be presented in a standard University internal mail envelope or in a correctly re-addressed envelope.  Please ensure that the recipients name and department are clearly marked on the envelope.

Stamped mail

Pre-stamped mail will be handled by the Post room staff.  However, please be reminded that there is a Royal Mail post box located on University Square adjacent to the Technology Building.

Inland mail for franking

1st Class - Orange Indentification Slip

2nd Class - Pink Identification Slip

Inland priority mail

Royal Mail Recorded Delivery - Yellow Identification Slip
Provides you with a "proof of postage" and ensures a signature on delivery.  This service is available for both 1st and 2nd class mail but compensation is limited in the event of loss or damage.

Royal Mail Special Delivery - Grey (with black border) Identification Slip
Guaranteed next day delivery normally by 12.00 noon.  However, items posted on Friday may be delivered on Saturday but are only guaranteed for a Monday delivery. The standard level of insurance is up to £250 but can be increased to £1000 or £2500 for an extra charge.  Items up to 10kg can be sent using this service.

Please contact the Post room staff should you require a delivery before 9.00am.  This service is available at an additional cost.


All Royal Mail priority services for Inland Mail are trackable.  Progress can be checked by telephoning 0845 609 2609 or on-line at www.royalmail.com

International mail

Royal Mail - Purple Identification Slip
Available for letters and small packets which can be tracked.  Confirmation of delivery can be sought either on-line at www.royalmail.com or by telephoning 0845 609 2609. 

Please confirm with the Post room staff prior to despatch that this service is available for the destination country

Parcels

Parcel Force 9.00am - Green Identification Slip
Guaranteed delivery by 9.00am the next day, a Saturday delivery is available at an extra charge. A signature is required upon delivery. The consignment is insured up to £250

Parcel Force 10 - Green Identification Slip
Guaranteed delivery by 10.00am the next day, a Saturday delivery is available at an extra charge. A signature is required upon delivery. The consignment is insured up to £250

Parcel Force 12 - Green Identification Slip
Guaranteed delivery by 12.00 noon the next day, a Saturday delivery is available at an extra charge. A signature is required upon delivery. The consignment is insured up to £250

Parcel Force 24 - Green Identification Slip
Guaranteed delivery next working day. A signature is required upon delivery. The consignment is insured up to £250

Parcel Force 48 - Green Identification Slip
Guaranteed delivery within 2 working days. A signature is required upon delivery. The consignment is insured up to £250

Euro 48 - Green Identification Slip
An economical alternative to International DataPost for European countries only. The consignment is insured to a value of £150

International DataPost - Green Identification Slip
Guaranteed worldwide delivery service.  The average delivery time is 3 to 4 working days depending on the country of destination. The consignment is insured to a value of £250


Should you wish to increase the level of standard insurance offered on any of the above services please contact the Post room - General Enquiries where staff will be pleased to advise you on the best level of cover to suit your needs.

The Post room can handle parcels up to a maximum weight of 30kg
