University can be a place for students to meet new people and find themselves, but on top of these rewarding aspects it can also be challenging. It can be a journey of mixed emotions that some students need help navigating. The NUS-USI student wellbeing research report (2017) by the National Union of Students showed that eight out of ten students say they experienced mental health issues while at University, with depression and anxiety scoring the highest. Loneliness, relationships, worries about the rising cost of studying, fear of failing to live up to expectations, and uncertainties about job prospects all contribute to mental health issues. We aim to support our staff to deal with students’ non-academic issues.
