UniShare
UniShare
UniShare is the university's implementation of Microsoft SharePoint. It is a browser based system (available on and off-campus) used primarily to share information and collaborate with other users around the University.
If you are a member of staff or postgraduate research student, you can set up shared documents, calendars, announcements and task lists, making collaborative working easier and more effective.
What should I use UniShare for?
UniShare is a useful place to keep work-in-progress for cross-team or cross-University project groups. Wisdom is the place to keep official university ‘records’ and the SAN is a useful location for non-project work.
UniShare is useful for managing projects and collaborating in all sorts of ways, such as.
- Developing task lists to keep track of actions at meetings
- Creating shared calendars with key dates
- Developing customised lists of information which are easy to search and filter
- Creating ‘forum style’ discussion boards to exchange ideas on hot topics
- Using issue tracking to document problems with systems and processes
- Creating alerts so you know when tasks are due or when someone has uploaded a document to an area that you need to read.
- Providing a powerful search capability to find your documents
There are also a number of other useful features such as the ability to setup workflows to automate processes but at present we are not utilising this functionality fully.
Setting up your own UniShare site
Please complete a UniShare site request form and then contact IT Support on ext 3737 to discuss your requirements.
Support and Information
UniShare is designed to be easy to use, but here are some resources to help you make the best of it.
Take a look at our in-house training resources site which is full of ‘how-to’ guides and related video demonstrations.
For background information, there are also quite a number of very informative SharePoint videos on YouTube - for example: SharePoint in Plain English and SharePoint Overview. A search for 'SharePoint' on YouTube will also produce a number of other good videos.
