Staff Book Club
The Occupational Health Department have set up a regular book club for staff, reading and discussing a variety of books. The book club is open to all staff and meets every 4-5 weeks, and is currently held online due to the Corona Virus Pandemic.
So that staff do not have to buy the book everytime, we will be selecting books from a list of books from Kirklees Library specially selected for Reading Groups. These books are all available as e-books from Kirklees Library, and are ‘simultaneous use’ titles, so there are no limits on the number of people who can borrow and download them at the same time. Staff are obviously also free to order themselves a hard copy, buy a copy for their kindle, borrow a copy from a friend or find a hard copy in their local library.
We are currently reading 'The Humans' by Matt Haig.
After an 'incident' one wet Friday night where he is found walking naked through the streets of Cambridge, Professor Andrew Martin is not feeling quite himself. Food sickens him. Clothes confound him. Even his loving wife and teenage son are repulsive to him. He feels lost amongst an alien species and hates everyone on the planet. Everyone, that is, except Newton, and he's a dog.
Who is he really? And what could make someone change their mind about the human race . . . ?
We will be meeting (online) to discuss the week commencing 7th September.
