The University of Huddersfield is committed to providing a healthy working environment for all of its employees. This includes where reasonable the protection of employees against work related stress and to promote their health and wellbeing.

Support for Individuals

  • Referral to Occupational Health: If you feel comfortable doing so, you should talk to your line manager in the first instance who may decide to refer you to Occupational Health.  Alternatively, you are welcome to contact the Occupational Health Department to arrange a one to one consultation with one of the Occupational Health nursing advisers on a self-referral basis.
  • VivUp , Staff Counselling and Mental Health Support: Through VivUp, you can access 24/7 confidential telephone counselling (03303 800658) from qualified and caring professionals. Staff can also access a self-help workbook on Stress.
  • Education Support Partnership: The Education Support Partnership provides mental health and wellbeing support services to all education staff and organisations.  They can provide telephone support and counselling.
  • Wellness Action Plan: Mind have developed a Wellness Action Plan that you can complete and discuss with your manager.  This provides an easy, practical way of helping you support your own mental health at work.  You can find further guidance here.  

Support for Line Managers

  • Occupational Health Advice: If you are currently concerned about an aspect of stress as related to the team which you manage please do not hesitate to contact Occupational Health for advice. 
  • VivUp , Staff Counselling and Mental Health Support: VivUp, have a 24 hour confidential telephone line which you can contact yourself for support and guidance about how to best to support a team member who is experiencing stress (03303 800658).
  • Wellness Action Plan: Mind have developed a Wellness Action Plan that you can complete and discuss together with your team member.  This provides an easy, practical way of helping them support their own mental health at work.  You can find further guidance here
