The National Institute for Health Research, under its health technology assessment programme invites stage 1 applications for its commissioned call for proposals. This supports research on the clinical and cost effectiveness and broader impact of healthcare treatments, tests and services in the fields of precision medicine and end of life care.

Applications that span the remit of more than one NIHR funding programme are particularly welcomed. Applications must address primary research in one of the following areas:

  • end of life care – with a focus on workforce and skills issues, referral or transition across health and social care services, managing symptoms and care needs, time and place of access to services, bereavement support, reducing health inequalities, or end of life care for infants, children and young people with life-limiting conditions;
  • precision medicine for the prevention, treatment, monitoring and management of patients and their outcomes, as well as the delivery and implementation of precision medicine in healthcare services.

UK-based researchers may apply. Patient and public involvement should be included within the application and study design.

There are no fixed limits on the duration of projects or funding. Funding covers up to 80 per cent of research costs for HEIs, and up to 100 per cent for others. All proposals must represent good value for money.
