10 Facts
Social
Huddersfield has a great cultural mix with people from many different countries making up the population of the town. This inevitably leads to an eclectic range of restaurants situated in the town centre and surrounding villages and it is possible to sample food from across the world.
Whether you fancy an Indian or a Chinese, Turkish or Thai, there is always something to suit everyone’s tastes. With Manchester, Leeds and Bradford on your doorstep, you are never short of a decent place to go and grab a bite to eat.
If you enjoy going out for a drink before or after a meal, Huddersfield has a wide variety of pubs and clubs to suit every occasion. Whether you are a real ale drinker or sophisticated wine connoisseur, there are plenty of places to choose from.
Huddersfield is the home to an annual food and drink festival in August and the town also hosts an annual contemporary music festival, the UK’s largest international festival of new and experimental music.
If shopping is more your thing, Huddersfield is a great place to spend the day. With a great mixture of old arcades and the contemporary Kingsgate Centre, the town can cater for most fashion tastes. Add to this the mix of coffee shops and eateries and Huddersfield ticks all the boxes. If you are looking for a day out, Manchester and Leeds are only a 30 minute train ride away.
Clubs and Societies
The University of Huddersfield is home to many clubs and societies for students to get involved with during their time with us. Although staff cannot play in the matches, it is a good opportunity for you to get out and watch a new sport and cheer on the University as they do battle with sides up and down the country. Why not catch a game of ice hockey or American football and see how the Hawks get on?
The annual Varsity match against the University of Bradford always brings out huge crowds to cheer on both universities as they do battle across all sporting disciplines.
