Green Week: Participating in Sustainability

Introducing Green Week: Participating in Sustainability, our annual sustainability celebration!

Each year’s theme is about exploring how you, and the University can engage with, and support sustainability. We want to bring you inspiring ideas for how you can take a more sustainable approach through your personal life at home, your studies or professional role, and your involvement in your local community, while showcasing some of the amazing activities already being carried out in the University community in support of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Green Week 2022

Introducing Green Week: Participating in Sustainability, our annual sustainability celebration! Green weeks 2022's theme was about exploring how staff and students, and the University engaged with, and supported sustainability. Inspiring ideas were shared on how to take a more sustainable approach through your personal life at home, your studies or professional role, and your involvement in your local community. Whilst showcasing some of the amazing activities already being carried out in the University community in support of the Sustainable Development Goals.

An exciting programme of seminars, workshops, fairs and panel events were held both virtually and in person, headlined by our second Women in Sustainability Panel.  The Panelists showcased the paths they had taken to get to their current roles in sustainability, including the challenges they had overcome and the goals they have achieved.

Green Week 2021

Green Week: A Carbon Neutral University was held virtually between 22nd-26th February 2021 and consisted of a variety of events attended and hosted by students and staff from across the University. Events included seminars from research groups in Applied Sciences and People and Organisational Development, with further contributions from the Students Union’s Disney Society and HudMovies as well as Textile students who ran seminars and workshops on sustainable textiles and Macrame. Hosting these sessions virtually allowed us to engage with students, staff and visitors to the University in a way that we haven’t done before, with individuals joining session from all around the globe!

The week was headlined by The University of Huddersfield’s Journey to Net Zero: a panel event, where attendees were able to engage directly with senior management and the Climate Emergency Steering Group on the Sustainability agenda and newly released Net Zero Strategy: A Ten Point Plan for the Planet. Delivered by the Sustainability Team in collaboration with third-year Events Management Students, this event was a huge success and you can watch it in full here.

We’re already planning next year’s Green Week and can’t wait to share the full timetable with you soon. In the meantime, you can check out the Green Week 2021 timetable, or get in touch if you would like to get involved and host your own event.
