If you need to escalate an urgent MHFAider® query regarding a student, please contact the Wellbeing Duty Advisor:
Email studentwellbeing@hud.ac.uk and it will be picked up by the adviser on duty, normally this is 9am-5pm each weekday, alternatively, please speak to a member of the iPoint team on 01484 471 001 who will contact the Wellbeing Duty Adviser.

Signposting Information
Internal Support for Students
Wellbeing & Disability Services are available 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. Appointments are available each day that can be booked through iPoint for Disability by ringing 01484 (47)1001 or emailing Disability at disability@hud.ac.uk and via the studentwellbeing@hud.ac.uk email for Wellbeing.
If you feel a student needs to be seen urgently please email studentwellbeing@hud.ac.uk and it will be picked up by the adviser on duty, normally this is 9am-5pm each weekday, alternatively, please speak to a member of the iPoint team on the above number who will contact the Wellbeing duty adviser.
Always discuss your concerns with the student and seek their permission before any disclosure.

Internal Support for Staff
The Staff Wellbeing Team offer support Monday- Friday, 9am - 4:30pm. The team are available to meet with staff for a 1:1 wellbeing focused conversation which is bookable via sending an email to Staff.wellbeing@hud.ac.uk. The Staff Wellbeing Service also offer detailed information pages on wellbeing-related problems, support groups for the Menopause and Returning Parents, monthly newsletter, access to wellbeing focused training, regular wellbeing initiatives to help connect with others and a wide-range of campaigns and sessions. You can view information on the full Staff Wellbeing services on their webpages.
All staff have access to the Staff Wellbeing Confidential Support Service. This is an external support service offering 24/7 access to telephone counselling support with a qualified professional (dial 0330 380 0658) there is also a ranger of self-help books on topics such as anxiety, depression and low mood, bereavement, post-traumatic stress, and self-harm, and a free mental fitness app MyMindPal.

GP
Anyone experiencing suspected mental or emotional health difficulties should be encouraged to access their GP to discuss how they are feeling. If required, support the individual to make the appointment during your contact.
The University Health Centre has an e-consult service with several options, this service is also available in other GP surgeries in Kirklees so please check as it allows an appointment to be gained quickly.
“I want help for my condition” – allows you to fill in a form about your health which will then be sent to the doctor on duty who will follow up with a telephone appointment

Single Point of Access
For more urgent cases, or where an element of risk has been identified, Single Point of Access can be contacted, and if the individual is in agreement, a referral can be made. The Calderdale and Kirklees Single Point of Access team receives all referrals for mental health services in Calderdale and Kirklees. The team directs all the referrals to the most appropriate Trust services or advises the referrer of the best organisation to contact. 01924 316830

NHS Kirklees Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT)
NHS Kirklees Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT) provides a choice of services for people aged 18 plus experiencing common mental health problems such as depression, stress, panic and obsessive compulsive disorder. Based at Folly Hall in Huddersfield the help available depends on each individual’s circumstances. Some people may benefit from a shorter period of help, whereas others may need more long term support. Self-referrals can be made at the Kirklees Talking Therapies website or calling 01484 343700.
Insight Healthcare (Calderdale)
Insight talking therapies is a free and confidential service, commissioned by the NHS, and is available to anyone aged 18 plus and registered with a Calderdale GP. Self-referral can be made by phoning 0300 555 0191
NHS 24 Mental Health Helpline
There is now a 24 hour mental health helpline for anyone registered with a GP in Barnsley, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.
The service supports people who are:
- At risk of developing mental health problems
- Diagnosed with common mental health problems
- Accessing mental health support
- Experiencing mental health distress
- Seeking information, advice and support

Papyrus: Confidential help and advice to young people (35 years and younger) and anyone worried about a young person at risk of suicide. 0800 068 4141. Online information available at

Other local supports/groups
Andy’s Man Club: A weekly group for men to meet and talk openly to others. Runs in various locations at 7pm on a Monday (excluding bank holidays). Huddersfield’s town centre group is at The Zone, St Andrew's Road, Huddersfield HD1 6PT. They are on Facebook and Instagram (please see link below for other Huddersfield groups) so please like to keep abreast of any news they may have. Check online for more group details.
Battlescars: Are a small, dedicated, 100% survivor-led and run charity offering local, regional, national as well as international support around self-harm. Based in Leeds with online support.
Kcrasac: Kirklees and Calderdale Sexual Abuse Centre provides support, including counselling, to anyone who has been the victim of a sexual assault. Contact number to refer is 01484 450040
Platform One: Based at the Train Station in Huddersfield. Support men from all backgrounds and experiences. They encourage recovery through various activities. Check their website for more details.
Support to Recovery: is a local Mental Health Charity that has provided a range of services to the people of Kirklees for over twenty years.
By working in collaboration with people who are affected by emotional distress, S2R have developed a package of options and opportunities so individuals can design their own pathway to positive mental health, physical and spiritual well-being, thus allowing people to achieve personal outcomes, fulfilment, long term aspirations and recovery. They can be contacted on 01484 539531 and are located on Brook Street in the Centre of Huddersfield.
The Base: A drug and alcohol service for young people and young adults in Kirklees (up to the age of 21). They provide free, friendly and confidential support on drugs, NPS (previously known as 'legal highs') and/or alcohol issues. The service also offers provision for parents, carers and professionals that support young people in Kirklees. Tel. 01484 541589
Change, Grow Live Kirklees (formerly CHART Kirklees): Every year, Change, Grow Live Kirklees works with hundreds of people who have problems with drugs or alcohol in supporting them to change their behaviour and achieve their recovery goals. They provide help for individuals, families and communities throughout Kirklees who have been affected by substance misuse.
Well-bean Hope in a Crisis café: provides a safe space for Kirklees residents who are experiencing crisis and aims to prevent avoidable attendances at A&E. The cafe offers a warm person-centred approach to crisis support and is available every night from 6pm-midnight. One-to-one support, a safe social space, hot drinks, and homemade food are available. West Yorkshire and Harrogate Suicide Bereavement Service: Compassionate support for those bereaved by suicide.
Women's Centre Huddersfield: Work with women to provide a variety of support covering many issues including mental health and wellbeing. Counselling, self-help and group work is offered. They can be contacted at the Women Centre, 15 Lord Street, Huddersfield, HD1 1QB. 01484 450866.
Unmasked Mental Health: Peer group support in various local locations (not currently in Huddersfield but have Hubs in Brighouse, Elland, Cleckheaton and Halifax etc).

Mind: Online support for any mental health or wellbeing issues at
SANE: A national mental health helpline, out-of-hours offering specialist emotional support and information to anyone affected by mental illness, including family, friends and carers. Open every day of the year from 4.30pm to 10.30pm on 0300 3047000.
B-EAT: are a national eating disorder charity who provide online and telephone support to anyone struggling with an eating disorder and their carers. Their website has lots of information on eating disorders and where to find additional support. Telephone contact details: Helpline 08088010677, Youth line 0808801711.
Please look in your 2 day MHFAider® manuals (at the back) and Refresher manuals from page 27 for other useful numbers too and if you are aware of any new supports available this information can be shared at MHFAider® peer support meetings in the future.
