Links and images

Links are an extremely important element of SEO. This includes incoming, outgoing and internal links. Encouraging people to link to your webpages is good practice, especially if the sites are trusted sites such as government or education organisations. Equally, linking out to these sites can add SEO value as well as pointing users to further information. You must always ensure when you add an external link, that you add the ‘no follow’ code in T4 in order to ensure that you do not lose any SEO value.

Internal linking helps to build a bigger site footprint as well as creating multiple exit points for a user on a page. Think about where a user may want to go once they have read the information on your page and try and help them to get there by providing relevant links.

Alternate (ALT) text

Images are another important aspect of a webpage as they help to bring copy to life. They can also bring SEO benefit if they are named in the right way. By adding alternative text (ALT text) to an image, this can help you to place additional keywords on a page as well as helping with accessibility for visually impaired users who may be using a screen reader.
