Learning Technology Development

The STLT seeks to shape the development of the University’s technology enhanced learning platforms to achieve our strategic goals through day-to-day support and consultancy from Learning Technology Advisors and a range of ongoing and short-term projects including:

Vevox - classroom voting software

Changes to the license conditions of a popular free platform led the team to investigate options to introduce a centrally supported student response system, to allow for voting interactions during face to face teaching. Vevox was selected and implemented, and provides the benefit of integrations with PowerPoint, Brightspace and Teams.

Brightspace service development

The team collaborates with Computing and Library Services to manage the development and implementation of new features in Brightspace, including deciding on configuration and providing training materials.

Module handbook project

Building on work undertaken in the former School of Education and Professional Development, this project is a collaboration with all schools and Registry to integrate the traditional module handbook into Brightspace, so that information is presented to students in a more targeted format at the point of need, creating, as far as possible, a single definitive version of the information.

Reviewing opportunity statements

Input from the Team is part of the process of getting approval for new Opportunity Statements concerning teaching and learning matters.  The team check that the proposal doesn’t conflict with other developments that are in progress to reduce duplication of effort and provide a pedagogical perspective on the request

Extensions project

We are working with colleagues in Registry to provide student-facing training materials for the new processes by which students will request an extension.

VLE analytics

Using data from Brightspace to evaluate engagement, inform decision making and target resources most effectively.

Horizon scanning

The world of Technology Enhanced Learning is constantly changing. We are always looking towards the future and new opportunities to enhance our practice. Current work includes evaluating and monitoring the opportunities and challenges of emerging generative artificial intelligence tools.

Representing STLT on groups and committees

Members of the Team attend various committees and groups, to provide updates on our projects, support other initiatives and understand requirements and opportunities from around the University. The team also provides input to represent the academic and/or pedagogic perspective in these meetings.
