Computing and Library Services

iPoint

There will be three Student Help iPoints across campus. The existing Student Central iPoint will be supported by a Barbara Hepworth iPoint (opening 16 September), supporting students on the western edge of campus, and a Daphne Steele iPoint (opening 23 September) – supporting students at this new site. For the first two weeks of term, iPoint services will be supported by specialist colleagues able to deal with student queries face to face.  Team members from Student Engagement and Attendance Monitoring (SEAM), Course Operations and Student Finance will be in situ at iPoint locations to help students.  International Office team members will offer enrolment and immigration/visa advice support from Student Central. IT - Out of hours support

As of 2 September 2024, Computing and Library Services will no longer offer a 24/7 IT Support Service. IT Support will remain available during core business hours of 8.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays and University closures).

If you require IT Support outside of business hours, please email it.support@hud.ac.uk for response the following business day or visit the self-service portal HudHelp.

Printing Services

Printing Services has been consolidated with The Digital Print Centre in the Barbara Hepworth Building. The new, combined service will operate from BH1/04, floor one Barbara Hepworth building (entrance opposite Sovereign Design house).

University Reception

The University Reception located in the Harold Wilson Building will cease operations from September. As part of this closure, the email inbox for the University Reception will no longer be monitored. Calls will be diverted to the switchboard and emails will receive an automated response directing them to the appropriate contacts:

Outreach activity: Conducts geographically targeted outreach activity focussed on undergraduate recruitment.

Recruitment events: Coordinates on-campus recruitment events including Undergraduate and Postgraduate Open Days and Undergraduate Applicant Visit Days.

University events: Coordinates corporate events including VIP visits and graduation. Provides advice and guidance to all University staff for other events including research.

Student Recruitment Team

Student Recruitment and Admissions Team: Provide an enquiry and application service to study Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate Taught (PG) and Postgraduate Research (PGR), including apprenticeship and distance learning courses for Home applicants. The team ensures the University abides by UCAS Application and Recruitment policy, University Admissions Policies and provides advice on course entry requirements.

Professional Course Student Recruitment Team: Provides an enquiry and application service to study courses with specific professional body requirements, for example Health Professional, Workforce Development, Pharmacy, Optometry and Initial Teacher Training Courses. This team is responsible for arranging interviews (for both home and international applicants) and ensuring required checks are completed for specific courses, for example, disclosure baring service (DBS), occupational health and overseas police checks. 

The International Office is responsible for processing enquiries and applications for overseas applicants except for Distance Learning courses which are handled by the Distance Learning Unit and Student Recruitment and Admissions Team. Contact: international.office@hud.ac.uk

Placement Services have now moved into the Careers and Employability Service, including:

  • Facilitating and organising placement opportunities for compulsory placements and sandwich year

  • Ensuring all placement activities comply with University policies, external regulatory requirements and relevant employment laws

Student Engagement and Attendance Monitoring (SEAM)

SEAM is a new area within Student Services: the new Student Engagement Team supports students to maintain engagement with their studies and monitors attendance. Student Engagement Coaches support students settling into university studies and provide early and ongoing interventions to ensure they stay on track.

The Student Engagement Team’s core responsibilities are:

  • Coach, set goals and help students to resolve challenges they are facing
  • Monitor student attendance and intervene early to support reengagement and success
  • Coordinate student support and additional needs interventions that enable student success
  • Support students to navigate university processes and commence formal processes when students have not engaged in their studies
  • Develop practices that enable the team to support students throughout their learning journey.
