What is this course about?

In this session, we’ll explore the fundamentals of research impact, starting with what impact is (and isn’t) and the different types of impact researchers can achieve. We’ll discuss why impact is important, how it benefits researchers, institutions, and society, and ways to start embedding impact into your work. Using real examples of impact, we’ll break down the difference between impact and engagement, helping you build a strong foundation for the rest of the programme.

This session will be delivered twice - once in person and once online.

Objectives

Here is what you can expect by attending this course:
  • Gain insight into the benefits of impact for researchers, institutions, and wider society.
  • Have a clear understanding of what research impact is, including the different types of impact, and how it can be achieved.
  • Have the ability to differentiate between impact and engagement, with practical examples to illustrate key concepts.
