Who is this course aimed at?
Academic Staff - Who wish to become supervisors of postgraduate degrees and have not acted in this capacity before, either at Huddersfield or elsewhere, must attend this course. Please note, those who have experience of acting as a Main Supervisor at Huddersfield, or experienced supervisors who are new to Huddersfield should complete the Supervision Update (Supervision Training - For Experienced Supervisors of Postgraduate Research Degrees) course once every three years.
What is this course about?
The programme is structured in two parts. Part 1 is centralised, during which you work through materials which will be sent to you in advance and a centralised live session delivered by the Graduate School via Teams. Part 2 is School based, designed and run by colleagues own School to reflect the contexts of PGRs in their disciplinary areas.
The programme looks at regulations, processes, and procedures as well as the practicalities of managing supervision and supporting PGRs. The programme includes many opportunities for discussion amongst participants and for questions to the programme team. Staff are expected to attend both parts to receive confirmation of their eligibility to supervise.
