Do you want to understand who you are a professional and how you can shape a positive way forward that is true to you as an individual? If you do, this workshop will offer a refreshingly different approach to reflection and personally defined goal setting using creative metaphor-based techniques.
Metaphors can be a powerful way to visualise complex and abstract concepts that are increasingly used as a tool for CPD, as well as academic research into professional identity. In this workshop you will identify a metaphor that represents how you currently see yourself as a professional, and a metaphor for how you would like to see yourself in the future. You will get to create a visualisation for each of your chosen metaphors, annotate and reflect on them, as well as identifying practical actions for the future.
We will have plenty of pens and paper for you to use to create your visualisations. It doesn’t matter what your images look like, as this isn’t an art class! The only thing that matters is that it expresses something meaningful for you, so you don’t need any artistic skills at all.
If you attend this workshop, you will also have the opportunity to take part in a research project by confidentially sharing your visualisations and thoughts with the research team that are researching the use of metaphors for CPD and Personal Development Planning.
Everyone who signs up for the workshop will be sent further information about the research and a consent form closer to the time. Participation in the research project is optional, so you can still attend the workshop even if you don’t want to be part of the research.
