First-time PI (3): understanding research impact at the outset

Who is this course aimed at?

Early Career Researchers (ECRs) who are preparing to or have recently embarked on their first project as a Principal Investigator (PI) – or anyone who would like a ‘refresher’.

What is this course about?

This session is part of the ‘First-time PI’ series and is focused specifically on the impact of your research - an important consideration from the outset of your project. You will build your understanding of what impact means, the wider benefits of impact and why demonstrating impact is critical to your current and ongoing research funding.
Please note this is session 3 within a series of 5 - please book your place for all five 'First-time PI' sessions.

Objectives

Here is what you can expect by attending this course:
  • Explore the fundamentals of research impact – what impact is (and isn’t) and why it’s important for you as a PI.
  • Know how to access a range of impact resources and where to for further guidance and support on research impact.
  • Understand your pathway to impact using the Pathway Model.
