What is this course about?

This online session, delivered by the Institute for Government (IfG), will provide an overall introduction to the government and policy landscape, the use of evidence in policy making and different routes to policy engagement for researchers. It is suitable for researchers of all levels and disciplines and designed to encourage thinking about how your research could have a wider impact on policy and society.

The facilitator for this event will be Katie Thorpe. Katie is the Institute’s head of learning and development. She works in the IfG Academy team creating and delivering workshops on understanding government and improving policy making.

Objectives

Here is what you can expect by attending this course:
  • Explore routes to policy engagement with some practical tips and suggested next steps
  • Overview of the UK government landscape, how policy making works and current challenges
  • Understand how academic research is used in policy making • consider different applications, audiences, and ways to maximise impact
