In order to meet our Public Sector Equality Duty, the University is required to publish annual equality information reports of our student and staff demographic. The data will be used in a variety of ways to inform decision making, including monitoring progress of the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Framework 2020 - 2025.

Student Data

Transparency Information provides equality monitoring information about University of Huddersfield students broken down by:

  • The number of applications for admission on to recognised, undergraduate higher education courses that we have received from UK domiciled applicants.
  • The number of offers we have made in relation to those applications.
  • The number of those offers accepted and the number of those who have registered with us.
  • The number of students who attained a particular degree or other academic award, or a particular level of such an award, on completion of their course with us.

It also shows these numbers by reference to:

  • The gender of the individuals to which they relate
  • Their ethnicity
  • Their socio-economic background.

Data relating to diversity profile, completion and degree attainment is from our 2018-2019 HESA Student return:

Student Numbers 2020/21 Academic Year

Student Numbers 2019/20 Academic Year

Student Numbers 2018/19 Academic Year

Updating your Equality Data in MyHR

Why does the University ask for equality information about staff?

The University of Huddersfield is committed to creating an inclusive environment and removing barriers for all our staff and students. By updating your equality data, you are not only helping us to meet our obligations under the Equality Act 2010, but it also enables us to build an accurate picture of our staff diversity profile. The information that you provide is used to inform and indicate the impact of our policies and practices on different groups in the institution and establish the University’s future priorities and initiatives to develop more inclusive services and provision. The data helps to highlight any areas of under-representation or inequalities from which we can develop actions and target our work to meet staff needs, in order to improve the quality of everyone’s working life.

Who will see my data?

The personal data that you enter into this section is voluntary, if you do provide the information requested, we will only use this in an aggregated and anonymised form.  If you would rather not disclose information, there is an option to select ‘Prefer not to say’ as the response.  All employee information held by the University is covered by the University’s Staff Privacy Notice.

How do I update my data in MyHR?

The MyHR system allows you to view and update your own equality data in the ‘Equality Information’ section - please take a couple of minutes to check that your data is correct and up-to-date.  As well as accessing MyHR via your University computer, you can also access it via your own computer, tablet or mobile phone.

Monitoring and Reporting Terminology

Although every effort has been made to ensure that the options available in MyHR are inclusive, unfortunately our current system does present some limitations. This is primarily due to the identities recognised by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), in which the University is legally required to report to. The University of Huddersfield wishes to celebrate, acknowledge, and affirm all LGBTQI+ identities, and we encourage members of staff to use the options which they feel best represent them. We also provide a ‘Prefer to self-describe’ option, should you wish to highlight your identity as something that is not available on the self-declaration form, or alternatively please feel free to contact our EDI team. All questions and enquiries will be dealt with confidentially.
