Our Aim

We aim to create a culture in which great management and leadership is embedded at all levels and across all our Schools and Services. Our approach to development will help ensure our managers and leaders are equipped with the right knowledge, skills, and behaviours to undertake their roles effectively, both now and in the future. We are driving an ambitious objective at our University: awarding CMgr status to 100% of our managers & leaders, and we are dedicated in supporting you to achieve this aim. We want to help create a community-learning environment across our Schools and Services in which staff are inspired to develop together, helping good management and leadership practice to be shared and poor practice to be challenged.

Huddersfield Leader Framework

The Huddersfield Leader Framework identifies what best practice in management and leadership at our University looks, feels and sounds like. It outlines the core competencies and behaviours for all managers, current and future.

Each competency includes a brief description that every manager can use to guide them, and clearly outlines what staff can expect from their leaders and managers.

Our Partnership with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI)

We have partnered with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the only chartered professional body in the UK dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership.

We are an accredited CMI Centre, which enables us to deliver CMI qualifications to University staff. Our management & leadership programmes not only support our University needs, but also reward the development efforts of our managers and leaders with internationally recognised qualifications.

Chartered Manager CPD

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a commitment to your professional development, necessary to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.

As a Chartered Manager, you will need to evidence effective annual CPD, linked to your leadership role with the University. This can take the form of further training, gaining formal qualifications, taking on new projects, as well as reading and being involved in coaching & mentoring.

To record and track your CPD we recommend you take advantage of CMI’s online CPD system.
