Plenary
Meeting students where they are – A different student journey
This plenary brings student experiences to the fore and asks a simple question: what gets in the way of students fully engaging with their learning, and what can we realistically do about it?
You’ll hear directly from students about how they experience University life, from trying to juggle studying and other commitments, to navigating teaching materials, assessment, communication, timetabling, and everything else that shapes their day-to-day learning. Some of what you hear will be familiar; some may be uncomfortable. All of it is grounded in real experience.
You will also step into those experiences yourself – testing how easy (or not) it is to access and engage with the kinds of materials and approaches we routinely use.
We will look at the small, practical changes that can make a real difference for our students. The aim is to leave you with a better appreciation of the modern student's perspective, and some things you might do differently next time.
This session will be presented by Stewart Worthy, Charlotte Kenyon, Sue Folley and Steve Bentley from the Strategic Teaching and Learning Team, in collaboration with the Students' Union
